where the words, "Order", "Cashier", and "Colonial Treasurer" and the figures denoting the Treasury numbers were impressed by means of hand stamps.
On the afternoon of 17th January, 1928, the General

Account ass Book was received from the Bank and handed

over to Mr. Tsang On Wing, whose duty it was to check the items in the Pass Book with those in the Cash Book and Cheque Register, which were kept by him.
On the morning of the 18th January, 1928, Mr. Taang
discovered that the account had been debited in the Pass Book with Three items which he could hot reconcile with
those in his books. These items read in the Pass Book:
"Jan. 3rd. By Kazy & Co. $86,965.33 Yuen Tak & Co. $78,300.41 Man Lee & Co. $95,142.19

Mr. Tsang, knowing that the Treasury operated on other accounts besides the General Account, went to Mr. Martin, who keeps the accounts for the Trade Loan and the Public
Works Loan and asked if any big payments had been made out
of his accounts.
Mr. Martin having replied in the negative, Mr. Tsang then went to Mr. Barton, who keeps the accounts of the Praya East Reclamation, and made a like enquiry.
Again receiving a reply in the negative, Mr. Tsang
reported the matter to Mr. Black.
Mr. Black immediately addressing a letter to the
cashier at the Bank in the following terms:
